Grants Program
The Grants Program for contemporary art has not only been one of the main programs of the SCCA-Prague but, according to many, also one of its most important contributions; achieving a significant and widespread impact on the development of contemporary arts in our society. The Grants Program has supported independent creative activities of individual artists, rewarding outstanding artistic initiatives in the form of financial grants, which enabled the winners to bring their creative ideas to life.
The effectiveness of the Grants Program has been reflected both, in the number of high quality projects which have been supported and, the way in which the program has been implemented. The effort for maximum objectiveness, flexibility, an immediate review process and subsequent notification, transparency throughout and respect for every applicant has made this program a functional institution of an open society.
The SCCA Prague (since 1999 FCA Prague) Grants Selection Committee - respected experts in their field - helped to establish the program guidelines; and were responsible for adhering to both these set guidelines and the program's overall aims. The primary focus of the grants program, based upon an assessment of initial results, has mainly been directed to the support of projects with high artistic quality and, as of 1995, in encouraging the work of emerging artists. The SCCA also realized the important role that arts have in building and strengthening relations within our community, and 1998 established a special category to promote quality projects in art museum education, the realization of art works in public spaces, and artistic activity of social minorities. These special grants have specifically focussed on building bridges and understanding between contemporary art and a wider general public.
Since 2004 some changes in rules and a shift in the focus of FCA Prague Grant Project has been resulted from the change of the main donator.
